Fly Fishing Gear Reviews
Hobbs Creek Large Arbor Reel (08/02/2007)
This reel is priced way cheaper than most reels of it's caliber. The Hobbs Creek
(available only at Bass Pro Shops...I think) is a steal - period.
The reel is a large arbor, metal reel, and I have read of guys
catching steelies on them. Bass Pro offer 3/4, 5/6, and 7/8 weight
versions of the reel, with spare spools for each. It is priced around
$35 for the reel, and $15 for spare spools. The concensus seems to
be that for the money, you can't beat 'em, and they far exceed
others in their class in durability, usability, and features.
The fear of posting a review like this is that retailers will sometimes realize that the buyers realize it is a deal, and of course, raise the price. All I got to say is "getcha one now!". Overall Rating: 4.6 out of 5 Check out the Hobbs Creek Large Arbor Reel at Bass Pro Shops »
Temple Fork Outfitters 9ft 2pc (Lefty Kreh) Rod (08/12/2007)
These are simply the best for the money - no bones about it. I have
broken and replaced 3 already. They have a "no-questions-asked"
replacement policy, with a reasonable "restocking" fee. (By the way,
snake 1 point, me 0). All I have to say is that I have a brand new Lefty
Kreh TFO rod in hand, and a grin on my face.
There's nothing extremely special about the rod itself. It has the standard fittings of most mid-grade rods, but I have found that I can cast all day without feeling my arm getting weary. What is most sexy about these rods is the lifetime guarantee. The guarantee isn't against the product breaking, but that the product will be replaced for a reasonable amount of money - in the event it does break. If you are like me, there's comfort in knowing that you can brave the waters without worring about breaking your precious rod. Overall Rating: 4.6 out of 5 Check out the TFO 9ft 5wt Rod at Bass Pro »
